Eco Tips for our Eco homes
Reuse
The first of our Eco tips tackles plastic carrier bags, as they are not going to go away over night we believe that we should get as much use out of them as possible. Use them to store things and in conjunction with the stylish “Ben the Bin” product to collect rubbish and litter in the home.
There is a disposable nappy mountain building up in the landfills, why not switch to a degradable disposable nappy or back to the traditional multi use nappy made from bamboo a sustainable natural resource
Reduce
Another tip for our Eco homes is to understand where energy is consumed in your home making it easier to manage and reduce usage, to help do that why not have a look at our energy meter. It will clearly demonstrate which items are energy drainers and which are not. It will help you compare your current electrical usage versus a replacement product. The higher the energy efficiency rating of electrical products the better with rating “A” being the least energy user. Higher rated energy efficient products are likely to save money over the life of the product.
Washing machines use a significant amount of energy, the higher the temperature wash the more energy used. Why not try washing at 30c instead of 40c or 60c, use an eco friendly washing detergent product such as AlmaWin a new and exciting product available which washes at low temperatures or try EcoBalls which remove the need for detergent from the washing all together.
Lights are always on in homes, why not have a look at our Eco LED lighting options which can help to make huge savings in lighting up homes and work places. This LED will gradually become the norm over a period of time, the light output from a 1W LED is equivalent to that from a 30W halogen or incandesant bulb. If you compare the costs of a typical 50W halogen spotlight to a 1W LED, the bulb might cost more to begin with but the running costs are a fraction (50x times less!) of the "normal" bulb. On top of this the LED bulbs last up to 20 times longer, making the life cycle cost of the LED about £15 compared to over £100 for a halogen bulb
Recycle
As recycling awareness grows it will become more cost efficient for one used product to be turned into another. Why not have a look at our recycled stationery which includes pencil cases made from recycled car tyres and note pads made from recycled retail packaging.
