We all rely on expensive to run halogen & incandescent light bulbs in our homes because they are cheap to buy and replace, but they consume an enormous amount of energy.
These LED (light emitting diodes) bulbs will gradually become the norm over a period of time, but at the moment the light generated from one bulb is not sufficient to match the output from a incandescent bulb so making them ideally suited to multi light fitments, for example kitchen spotlights where several might be used together. The light output from a 1W LED is equivalent to that from a 30W halogen or incandescent bulb.
If you compare the costs of a typical 50W halogen spotlight to a 1W LED, the bulb might cost more to begin with but the running costs are a fraction (50x times less!) of the "normal" bulb. On top of this the LED bulbs last up to 20 times longer, making the life cycle cost of the LED bulb about £15 compared to over £100 for a halogen bulb!
LED really is the future of lighting as you can see from this range, with GU10 LED light bulbs leading the way.
